String Angels
This is a craft my Nana taught me.
I use kitchen string or a crochet thread that has more "tooth" to it* . I cut a stiff cardboard thread winder measured: 5" X 3". I duct taped a cross on it so it would make the thread slip off easier. It is important not to wind the thread too tight. One step I forgot to add in the pictures below is the addition of the "halo". During step 5, while you are putting the marble in to make the "head" you add a wedding ring party favor (found in the wedding supplies aisles of many stores). All of the remainder decorations are up to you! I love putting a big ribbon on the back for "wings". Some other ideas are: hot glueing hands together and putting a small silk flower in them (or a ribbon), using ribbon for hair, use a piece of large ribbon for an apron, hot glueing small gems on apron. I also love small strings of beads (I used it as "hair" and put a string in hands on the angel above). I love making these for friends during Christmas and our Christmas tree is full of them and you can embellish a gift with one too. The possibilities are endless. :-)
What you will need:
- string or crochet thread*(see note above)
- a 5" X 3" piece of stiff cardboard
- a ruler
- scissors
-a small clear marble
- wedding ring party favor
- hot or low temp. glue gun
- large ribbon for "wings"
-any decorative embellishments (beads, gems, small silk flowers, endless possibilities)
Have fun!
